To become a flight attendant, there are some basic requirements you need to meet. These requirements are however not cast in stone, they vary from airline to airline.
Here are the requirements:
Age
The minimum age requirement to become a flight attendant in Nigeria, is between 18-21years.
If you ask me, if you have any plans to pursue a career in flying the earlier you start the better. Most Airlines today will prefer younger flight attendants. So why not start ontime?. If you intend to become one, the Ideal age i will recommend to start is beween 18-30years. The younger the better.
Height
The height requirement for you to become a flight attendant is 5ft 3inches tall minimum and 6ft 1inch tall maximum. This may vary from airline to airline.
You may wonder why they have these restrictions. The essence is to ensure that you are not too short that your hands can not reach the Overhead bins where passengers stow their bags. And while standing, you should be able to comfortably touch the emergency exit. Also you are not too tall that you can not stand Comfortably in the Cabin or to the extent that your head is touching the aircraft ceiling.
Weight
Most airlines have their weight and height parameters. The bottom line is you need to be slim to increase your chances of been considered for the role of a flight attendant in Nigeria. Airlines have set their height and weight parameters. They however expect that your weight is proportionate to your height. They want to be sure that when you sit on the Crew Jump seat you can comfortably fit into. You can easily manoeuvre your way around the Aircraft Cabin, and in an event of emergency you can easily pass through the emergency exit.
Academic Qualifications
Way back then all you needed was to have was just to have completed Secondary school in Nigeria. But today that has changed. Now you have to be a graduate. Preferably in the Social Sciences and Arts Discipline.
Customer Service
Having Customer Service experience will be an added advantage for you.
Physical Apearance
Whilst most airlines will not expect you to be a beauty queen or a handsome prince, however you need to be attractive.
Now have you meet the basic requirements? Then if you have, the next stage is for you to go and get the training…
There are alot of reputable Aviation training schools in nigeria approved by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority where they can train you on how to become a Flight Attendant in Nigeria. Watch out for this on the next video and post.
