Meet our Aviator of the day: Auwal Inuwa Muhammad. An Amiable Ex Colleague. I call him Pilot Police. I caught him online recently and was able to take some few minutes out of his busy flight schedule for this short interview.
Who is Auwal?
Auwal is a pilot with the Nigeria police Airwing
How did you find yourself in the aviation industry?
“I found myself in the aviation due to patience, hard work and above all determination to do the job right from a kid @age 3, which helped me through… From a counter ticketing officer at Middle East airlines to Captain.”
Yes I enjoy flying, especially in clear blue skies…
What is your most memorable flight?
“My most memorable flight was a flight from Lagos to Abuja with 96 souls on board at 2100hrs. We had an EDP (engine driven pump”FAILURE” ) on the Emb 190 along side Capt Benson ikpomwosa in command, as well as Rose GaIya, Crew Line Manager in the cockpit. initially it was scary but due to the expertise of Capt ikpomwosa, every single minute was utilised until the faulty bird was brought on ground safely under the Supervision of the able Capt. The best pilot.”
How was the transition for you from commercial to Police Force flying?
“Transition from civil aviation to regimental life was not as easy as expected but with resilience and determination it was smooth not regarding the perpetual salute to higher ranking officers even when on the controls.”
Your greatest Joy in your career
“To have the opportunity to fly the number 2 citizen of the federal republic of Nigeria for at least 3 years now as well as higher ranking officers, including 4 different inspector generals of police, governors and ministers. It is a great joy. I have this opportunity not because i am the most intelligent, but a rare glimpse of priviledge . I am most grateful to my creator.”
Which is your most memorable Aircraft flown and why?
“My most memorable airplane was the Emb 190 with Capt Zebere and Capt Okolo perfecting me onto my aspirations and excellence. I still remember Capt Okolo always use to say…. “Black Coffee no sugar no milk…” OVERRRRR to his cabin attendants. while Zebere is always looking out on the left cockpit window to scan and ensure all boarded and de boarded accurately. LOL..”
Achievements
“Growing through the ranks, and finally attaining excellence with the positing of a Chief superintendent of police as well as a captain on the police jet. Honoured amongst others UAE Runner-up pilot of the year 2005, winner spot landing contest in ummul quwain also in the UAE. Its been a lot of hard work, but has paid off.”
Advice for aspiring young pilots..
“My advice to Aspiring pilots to be patient and be determined. Safety is paramount in the industry if unsure please ask and it shall be given again… Popularly recalled as quoted in the Bible Matt 7.7.”
How do you unwind when you are not flying?
“As a Muslim no unwinding alcoholically”
Thank you Captain, Suprintendent, Auwal Inuwa Muhammad. Mamajsavaitionblog wishes you safe skies….
