Meet our Aviator of the day: Percival Uwechue.

Percival has been in the Aviation industry for quite a long time. Through hard work, he has climbed through the cadre of Leadership. Perci as popularly called is known for his meticulousness and people management. I have worked with him in the past and i can attest to the fact that he is passionate about what he does, and strives hard at ensuring official matters are pursued to a logical conclusion. if there is one thing Perci does consistently, is striving for excellence in its entirety. Aptly put, he is a top notch professional who is holding his own in the Aviation industry in Nigeria today.

Currently the Airport Manager of Etihad Airways, he has previously worked with ADC Airlines, Virgin Nigeria and Lufthansa Group.

It was my pleasure to have this brief interview with him recently. Lets meet this seasoned aviator:

Who is Percival Uweche?

“Perci is just your normal everyday guy, i love God and strive to serve him through all I do, im naughty, adventurous, a walking question mark, on a spiritual journey.”

How did you find yourself in the Aviation Industry?

“I asked at infant jesus novena for a job i’ll be paid to have fun, see the world at no cost to me , and i havent looked back since..”

How do you see the industry in Nigeria?

“Capacity unfulfilled, under-utilized, and we keep still selling ourselves short, shame really. it’s a huge market and the numbers are our strength, yet we’re not playing to our strength.”

You have held several management positions in different Airlines, What is it like managing people to deliver excellent Customer Service? What management tips can you share?

“I believe in giving the tools to those people who make and execute the contracts. so, grow the man/woman to grow the business and let them run, learning curves can be expensive, however in the long run, it will serve the product and business, train, run, train again, i see a lot of micro managing of people which does and never allows the full potential of such people manifest as they must always look back to the line manager for affirmation for every thought and decision.”

“Mentally lazy people, folks, who do not and wont take responsibility, wheelbarrow mentality folks- people who wont move past where you push them to and crab mentality- drag em down people. These folks take away your energy and make simple things difficult.”

Can you recall your most memorable work experience?

“VNA LOS hub start up, it was Adrenalin driven, haven’t been that stretched in a long time.”

All work and no play….How do you unwind?

“I love great food, so I cook, love to host, watch series to pass time and i love travelling- cultural awareness through travelling so to speak.”
