The potentially catastrophic incident happened as the jet was taking off for Alicante Spain

A budget airline flight carrying 83 passengers had to make an emergency landing at Southampton airport after a bird strike caused an engine to fail.

The Flybe flight was headed for Alicante in Spain when a bird struck a propeller on the Embraer E175 plane shortly after take-off and caused an engine to fail.
