Is flying an exciting and adventurous Job? If you ask me, without mincing words i would say YES!
Flying is one job that gives you the opportunity to travel to many destinations of the world. Meet with the rich and the affluent, sleep and dine in 5star hotels…..imagine having breakfast in lagos and dinner in London. Do you know you can actually be in 4 different states in nigeria in one day and two countries same day?
Flying is an adventurous job, with dependable income (But Commensurate?). The work schedule is quite flexible compared to the 9-5 jobs. Awesome isn’t it?
Surprisingly though, this job has its downsides which are often overlooked. All people see is the glamourised aspects. Well, the stark reality which people dont know exist is that the job of a flight attendant is HARD WORK!!! BACK BREAKING HARDWORK! according to my colleague. You can only enjoy the job and become sucessful if and only when you work hard. It could be quite challenging you know… juggling different roles most of the time and trying to strike a balance. If you are an aspiring flight attendant and you are Lazy, then please i will advise you consider another profession.
Imagine working for twelve hours in a day and being on your toes…the only time you get to sit down is only for take off and landing. You are lucky if you have enough time to sit down to eat. Most of the time you eat standing as there is barely enough time between landing time and next departure time.
Flight attendants are most of the time exposed to different elements: Constant Risk, Eating late at night which could be unhealthy, Digestive Problems, Pressurised Cabins, Assault, Jet lag, the list is endless…..
Atleast up until 2007 when i was in active flying this was my work pattern.
Way back it was more hard work because we did not really have duty time limitations. We flew all day until there were no more passengers to fly. We would work late into the night for a layover and up again early in the morning to resume flying for the day. Imagine getting 4 hours sleep after a long day of flying. Fortunately that has improved today thanks to the enforced regulations. Now we have duty time limitations and restrictions.
MamaJ; bang on! Your no.1 just steps on board. Let’s roll
