Meet our Aviatior of the day- Young and vibrant Captain Adedotun Oshagbemi.

At such a young age he is making an impact in the industry and inspiring his generation. I call him the new generation Captain. Who says age is a barrier? Meet our young Captain on the block.

Who is Capt. Adedotun Oshagbemi?

“Capt. Adedotun is in his early 30s. A graduate of mechanical Engineering, studied at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria”

How did you find your self in the flying world?

“Well i have always been fascinated about flying for as long as i can remember. Striking in memory was meeting some Nigeria Airways Pilots at Kaduna Airport. My dad had been on their flight from lagos and i had the opportunity to shake hands with them. They were well dressed in their Pilot uniforms and well spoken….for me they were like “Angels” lol…..
After that encounter i just got hooked on the idea of becoming a Pilot. I commenced my Pilot training in south Africa in 2007, followed by Jet training in the united states. My flying Career started in Virgin Nigeria Airways. As luck would have it, on the eve of the Airline’s demise i was hired by Arik Air Limited where i worked for three and half years. I currently work for Air Peace Limited.

As a young Captain what do you find most challenging?

“Being a Pilot in itself is challenging, however knowing how to overcome the challenges adds fun to the job. Truth be said, being responsible for the safety of the Aircraft, Crew, Passengers, Cargo and taking operational decisions that have weighty economic and political implications especially in a dynamic enviroment as ours can be quite challenging. For instance, in this part of the world where the scenario changes with very little warning, it requires Captains in command to be very focused and posess good problem solving skills to approach every situation tactfully. From the human angle, we can not also rule out conflicts that arises from time to time when one has to deal with People of diverse behavioural traits… The tendency for people to take one for granted when percieved to be “Very Young” is always there…But am glad to say that my training has equiped me with the conflict resolution skills to manage them as they come.
Trying to balance my work and family life is another challenge. Unstable rosters is quite a challenge. To worsen situation the fact that published rosters are subject to changes at short notice does not make this any easier as the work life competes continously with familiy life. Atleast i can say it’s getting better compared to the past.

The bi-annual simulator could also be quite challenging…the fact that if one fails then you are out of job unconsciously causes some form of mental stress. Even though failure is not an option for me.

Can you recall your memorable flights?

“There are alot of them. Worth remembering: The first time i was in control of Boeing 737-300. The first time i flew my dad who sponsored me through the university and Pilot training. The day i flew ” My Woman, My Everything”  Adetokunbo Juliet Oshagbemi, Nee Eniolorunda. Flying in and out of London Hearthrow Airport. As a Captain, i cant forget my first flight after i got promoted. Flying to Johannesburg and knowing that i had been entrusted with a (Ninety Eight Million dollars) $98 Million Dollar Airplane. Most of all, flying with my bosom friend “Patner in Crime” Olukayo Orepitan. The entire operations went well. Needless to say Kayode and i were happy. ” Mission Accomplished”.

Do you Enjoy flying?

“Off course i do. Infact i hardly consider it as work rather is fun. I hope to be around here for a little longer as i cant think of an alternative to it now. Lol…”
