Female passenger handcuffed to seat and banned from airline for life

A PASSENGER has been banned for life from British Airways flights after a row at 30,000ft.

Bridget Nhire, 33, ended up in handcuffs and strapped to her seat after a fellow traveller complained that she was fidgeting too much.

The 5ft 3in stylist was travelling from Heathrow to Dubai when the man sitting behind her complained.

“He was telling me to sit down and I said ‘I have the right to get up and walk around for my health’. That escalated into a minor argument.

“Then the crew asked me to move to the front. They said ‘you are being aggressive. We feel you may have had a little too much to drink’.

“I had a drink but was not drunk. I had two glasses of wine with my meal. They strapped me to the seat and put me in plastic cuffs. I have bruises.

British Airways said it launched a full probe and gathered statements from fellow passengers, before taking the step to ban her.

But Ms Nhire claims BA overreacted and wants compensating compensation after the airline refused to fly her back from Dubai, leaving her stranded at the airport, reports the Sunday People.

She booked onto an alternative flight 11 hours later to get home to Uxbridge.

A spokeswoman for BA said: “Our customers and crews deserve to enjoy their flights and not suffer disruption.

“We would never issue a lifetime ban without first carrying out a thorough investigation.”

She added that bans can be appealed.
