A pilot has been hailed a hero after their quick thinking during a flight saved a child’s life.

The Captain made an emergency landing after the young passenger went into cardiac arrest.

The KLM aircraft was bound for Singapore from Amsterdam on Sunday night when the pilot diverted to Bucharest.

A doctor onboard desperately tried to resuscitate the child but when he failed, the pilot made the decision to land the plane immediately.

DJ Mental Theo – a passenger on flight KL835 – tweeted how the captain’s decision to divert the plane probably saved the child’s life.

He said: “Action heroes – Captain KLM on a flight to Singapore! Fast emergency landing prevents death of little baby on board! KL835.

“KLM Captain did the right thing to Save a childs Life! Respect KLM.”

A spokesman for Dutch airline, KLM, said: “The crew of the KL835 asked if any medical trained personnel was on board after it was known that one of the passengers had a medical condition.

“The passenger was examined by a doctor on board. After this is was necessary to divert the aircraft to the nearest airport, ie Bucharest. The passenger was off loaded and met by an ambulance.”

The child and his mother were admitted to a Romanian hospital and it is believed the child is in a stable condition.

The plane took off for Singapore just after midnight.
