International women’s day: Ugochi Obidiegwu

If you think that the Cabin Crew Profession is one that puts you in a box, then Ugochi has proved that being a Cabin does not limit you to the Aircraft Cabin, rather it creates a platform for you to leverage on to reach and access the boundless opportunities in our evolving world.

Meet Ugochi Obidiegwu,  a Cabin Crew and Safety Officer with Aero Contractors. Her Safety Movement focuses on creating unique safety education products for African children and educators in order to intentionally groom safety conscious children . Using “The Safety Chic” platform on social media, she engages in safety advocacy. The Train Them Young Initiative (#2TYI), under her company Ulomka Multi Solutions Ltd, has taught over 3000 students across the country safety skills. This is achieved via training and her child safety story book series – The Adventures of Muna which can be found on Amazon.

She convenes the annual School Safety Summit where stakeholders proffer solutions to safety challenges affecting school children Due to her work, in 2016, she became a YALI Regional Leadership Centre Fellow for Emerging African Leaders. In 2017, she was a finalist for the McKinsey Next Generation Woman Leader Award.

In 2018 she became a Tony Elumelu Entrepreneur and a Mandela Washington Fellow. She currently sits on the West African Regional Advisory Board to IREX and USAID on matters relating to the Mandela Washington Fellowship. She is a member of the World Safety Organisation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Language Arts from the University of Ibadan, relevant Safety certifications from the National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) and International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA).

She has also received Entrepreneurship training from the Adansonian project of Bocconi University, Italy and the Tony Elumelu Foundation. She has a Certification in Public Management from the Arizona State University, United States. Ugochi Obidiegwu is committed to ensuring more children get safety education in Africa. She plans to keep introducing innovative safety programmes and products that enhances safety consciousness in Africans
