United Airlines plane catches fire on runway in Denver

A United Airlines plane has been evacuated after it landed at a Colorado airport with one of its engines on fire, 9news reports.

The jet, operated by regional carrier SkyWest Airlines, was reportedly alight as it approached landing at Denver International Airport about 2.20pm (local time) yesterday.

All passengers were evacuated safely from the plane as emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire.

Passengers on social media thanked the pilot and crew for a “super quick” response, allowing all passengers to exit the plane with no injuries.

SkyWest flight 5869  had taken off from Aspen at 1:45pm local time, landing at Denver Airport at 2:20pm local time.

All runways at the airport are now open as investigations into the fire continue.

Other airport operations remain unaffected.
