Flybe plane crash lands on runway as storm carnage rages

 

A FLYBE plane has crash landed into a runway as it went in to touch down during storm chaos.

The incident happened at Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport this afternoon as the plane was arriving from Scotland’s Edinburgh Airport.

The jet’s landing gear reportedly “collapsed” as it was touching down amid bad weather.

Passengers were apparently evacuated from the stricken plane and taken to the terminal by bus.

A Flybe spokesperson told Daily Star Online: “We can confirm that there has been an incident involving one of our aircraft, flight no. BE1284. The aircraft departed from Edinburgh at 2.10pm local time bound for Amsterdam. The incident occurred at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport at approximately 4.59pm local time.

“We can confirm that there are no injuries and all passengers have been bussed to the airport terminal.”

“Our primary concern is for the welfare of the passengers and crew.”

The spokesman added layer that Flybe will conduct a full investigation into the incident.

Earlier today, the Schipol Airport official Twitter account warned customers to check before flying, saying they were major travel disruption due to bad weather.

It comes as Storm Doris batters the UK.

Parts of the country have been smashed by winds up to 100mph and there is widespread disruption on the roads and rail network.

A woman also died in Wolverhampton after being hit by a coffee table-sized piece of debris in gale-force winds.
