The incident happened at 9.45am Zurich time on Sunday (Oct 16), while the flight — SQ345 — was scheduled to depart at 11.45am the same day. No passengers or staff were on board the aircraft, an Airbus A380, at the time, and no one was hurt, including the driver of the vehicle.

A spokesperson from the airline said the plane was struck in the underbelly of its fuselage. “The flight was delayed as a result. Following repairs to the aircraft, SQ345 is scheduled to depart for Singapore on 17 October 2016, 1600hrs Zurich time,” he added.

The flight was scheduled to carry 369 passengers. “Some passengers have been transferred to other flights while the remaining passengers have been provided hotel accommodation before the departure of the delayed flight,” the spokesperson said.

A notice was issued for passengers staying at the Crowne Plaza Zurich, in which the airline apologised for the delay. “Our local and regional engineers are actively engaged in the necessary repair work and quality/safety checks,” said Mr Sunny Sandhu, the airline’s station manager in Zurich, adding that the spare parts that had to be be brought in would arrive on Monday (Oct 17).

The airline also arranged for meals, as well as coach buses to ferry passengers to the airport.
