About 152 Nigerians deported from Libya yesterday arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) at 4pm. This deportation is coming barely two months after 240 Nigerians were deported from Libya.
According to sources at the airport, the deportees said they voluntarily returned to Nigeria on their own accord, but it is recorded that some of them had tried to make their way to Europe but were not successful.
BusinessDay’s findings show that the deportees arrived on board a Libyan Airline aircraft, an Airbus A330-200 with registration number 5A-LAT.
The return of the deportees, sources said, was facilitated by the assistance of the International Office for Migration (IOM). The IOM has been instrumental to the voluntary return of many Nigerians trapped in the crisis that engulfed Libya a few years ago.
