Budget airline CANCEL flights after every single one of its flight crew calls in SICK

An impromptu industrial action by staff on Tuifly threw plans for a new airline into disarray.

Germany’s TuiGrop and Air Berlin were in talks about forming a new leisure airline.

Air Berlin’s biggest shareholder, Etihad, were in talks with TuiGroup about using 35 of Air Berlin’s aircraft to form a new airline.

However, just days after they announced the proposals, the flight crew for Tuifly all phoned in sick, forcing the decision for the plans to be postponed.

Workers’ representatives met with senior officials at the company following the industrial action.

It is believed the staff thought the proposals would subject them to poorer pay and working conditions.

Following the meeting, Tui announced that it will push back a board vote on the formation of the new joint venture.

The action also forced Tui to cancel as 108 flights.

The cancellation resulted in Tuifly only being able to offer 41 passengers a flight.And those flights were all operated by another airline or Tui Group airline such as the UK’s Thomson Fly.In a statement on the company’s website, a spokesperson confirmed that flights had been cancelled due to “short-term sickness reports” from their staff.

And they apologised for the delays and disruptions caused to its customers.

It also read: “We regret that due to the current situation, we will also be unable to continue flights from Germany, Austria and Switzerland on Saturday.

“We are stilling working to plan the departures to get the guests on site from the target areas to fly them to back home.”

The spokesperson also said that Tuifly is working hard to get majority of their flights back o track by Sunday.

The airline has asked passengers to check their website about further details regarding their flights.
