Expect good news soon, Minister tells Nigeria Airways retirees

Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, has assured retirees of the defunct Nigeria Airways to expect glad tidings very soon.

According to Daily trust report, the ex- Airways workers are being owed over N70 billion being their full disengagement benefits after the liquidation of the country’s first national carrier by the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 2004. With the planned establishment of another carrier by the government, the ex-Nigerian Airways workers are saying their full entitlements must be paid before government would establish another carrier. On Wednesday, the government approved the appointment of transaction advisers for the new national carrier and other projects in the aviation sector. While responding to a Twitter user who enquired about the plight of Nigeria Airways workers following the plan to establish another carrier, Sirika said he also tabled the issue before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the office of the President had done a good job on it.”I tabled the ex -Airways matter today also (Wednesday), Office of the President has done good job on it, the good news will be out soon”, the Minister said on his handle @hadisirika.Meanwhile, some of the retirees of the defunct national carrier held their weekly prayer gathering on Friday where they always invoke Almighty God to touch the heart of government to pay their entitlements.The prayer session was held at the Skypower Catering arena, located around Air Force Base Murtala Mohammed Airport, in Ikeja, Lagos.
