Africa World Airlines yesterday welcomed the latest addition to its fleet . The 5^th aircraft with registration no 9G-AFJ- touched down at the Kotoka International Airport in the morning amidst pomp and pageantry.

On ground to receive the Aircraft were the Executives and staff of the Airline and very important dignitaries, among whom were the Representative of the Aviation minister who was unavoidably absent.  The Chinese ambassador to Ghana, AWA Chinese partner, Embraer representative and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Representative.

Speaking at the occasion, Togbe Afede, the President and founder of Africa World Airlines, stated that the airline which started operations in 2012 with the E145 with a capacity of 50 passengers has become a dominant force along the Accra-Lagos route and has consistently demonstrated its ability to meet customers expectations on the route, competing favourably with Nigerian carriers.

According to the founder AWA operates 4 flights daily on the Los-Accra routes. Whilst announcing the Airline’s expansion drive, he stated that in line with the effective realization of the founders Visions, AWA plans to add additional 10 Aircrafts to its fleet by the year 2018. He said the airline which has the largest frequency on the Accra-Lagos route will be adding two more wide-bodied aircraft by the middle of the year to facilitate their planned regional operations, and plans to role out Accra-Abuja route in may. He reiterated the need for the Airline to continuously remain focused on the drive to achieve the founders visions whilst commending their progress so far. Afede who noted that the Nigerian market has been instrumental to its growth and operations on the route, pointed out that any airline that wants to succeed on the route must take into cognizance the important role the market plays on the West Coast.

Afede, however acknowledge the the operational challenges which are not insurmountable with the government”s support. One of the challenges he highlighted is the high service charge which is impacting on ticket fares. He however maintained that Africa World Airline is committed to helping government make Accra a hub of aviation in West Africa. “We are committed to supporting government in its programs as far as the sector is concerned, to bring development to the people. We are not called Africa world Airline for nothing, the desire of the founders has been for an airline that would conquer Africa” he said.
