Cameroon Airline to Resume Flights to Europe as Belgium Lifts Restrictions on the Corporation

Cameroon Journal, Yaounde – Flight restriction on Cameroon Airline Corporation, Camair-Co, from flying European airspace has been lifted, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o, Minister of Transport, announced in a communiqué signed Monday August 1.

However, the minister had earlier announced that the national carrier’s inability to fly to European countries was due to some administrative and management hurdles, and not related to a flight ban.

The Cameroon Journal gathered that Camair-Co planes had been banned from Europe due to safety concerns.

Going by Mebe Ngo’o Monday communiqué, all disagreements between and among institutions responsible for the management of air aviation and air safety within and without the country have been resolved.

“I want to bring to your notice that during the tripartite meeting of my ministry, the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, CCAA and the Cameroon Airlines Corporation, Camair-Co, following the intervention of the head of state, His Excellency President Paul Biya, who has outlined a plan to revamp Camair-Co, the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority has lifted its ban on Camair-Co,” Mebe Ngo’o disclosed.

He added that fruitful negotiations were also held in Brussels, the capital of the European Union and that of Belgium that equally led to the lifting of the ban. When the ban was handed down over a month ago, both the management of Camair-Co and the government expressed their embarrassment to the CCAA. But the latter stood firm insisting that major decisions as to improvement of services must be taken before Camair-Co would be allowed to fly the European air space again.

This good news of reopening the European air space is coming about one month since one of the biggest air planes of the national air carrier, the Boeing 767-300 ER that was undergoing routine technical check in Ethiopia came back to the country on July 2.
