Meet our Aviator of the day: Folake Oyetosho, the Cabin Crew Manager-Service Training at Arik Air.

Just recently we became friends on facebook and within the short space of time, one thing that struck me about her, is her Personality. And then the curiosity to unravel her followed…

Folake is A Humanist , Articulate Budding Writer, Compassionate, Strong willed and  Dogged Aviator.  Yes she is an embodiment of vitality and holds her own in the industry.

Who is Folake Oyetosho?

I’m a free spirited Gemini. bubbly, vivacious, strict but compassionate.

How did you find yourself in the aviation industry?

I came into aviation by virtue of adventure. I had two bank offers at the same time as my airline but decided to try something different.

Kindly run us through your career history

I started off as a cabin crew member in June 2006, became a senior February 2008 and a manager, January 2015.

What drives your passion?

I am adventurous and willing to try new things

How do you juggle your roles: Cabin Crew, Trainer and manager?

The roles are interwoven but I fly less and train service procedures more. My job description entails that I write service procedures for all cabins, be acquainted with all onboard products and their correct usages. I’m also directly responsible for cabin crew grooming. As well as, include behavioural aspects in training material. Innovate on service procedures / product served. Apply customer feedback to service improvement efforts. Deal with the crew’s day to day issues in the role of Crew Manager to ensure that company productivity requirements are met and the crew’s work / life balance is maintained. Enforce the company’s disciplinary policy.

What challenges do you face in managing people?

Managing people is pretty tough. One has to contend with different personalities and varying emotions. The last option but hardly used for me is to pull rank.

What is your most memorable flight?

All flights are memorable as they leave an indelible mark. However some memories are etched in one’s consciousness forever.For me, a chartered flight to Venezuela in 2009 tops the chart.

What advise do you have for aspiring cabin crew?

Aspiring crew members should ask themselves deep questions – am I flying out of passion or glamour? Passion keeps them on the bad days while glamour will weaken their resolve.

Do you subscribe to that school of thought that Cabin Crew Members cannot keep a home? How have you been able to cope?

Cabin crew members can conveniently keep a home. It can be juggled.
Finding a balance is key.

What do you do when you are not flying or training?

Contrary to my personality, I’m a very private person. On my days off, I dwell in my solace. I’m a home bird. I stay at home and relax.
