Dubai: Thundershowers raged over Abu Dhabi from Thursday night until early morning Friday as different intensities of rain pour over Dubai and areas of northern emirates on Friday.
The surface low pressure area deepened as forecast on Thursday till Friday, bringing different intensities of rain in the UAE.
Unstable weather will continue with cloud amounts expected to increase producing rain clouds over the islands, different areas of Abu Dhabi, including Liwa, Al Ain and some areas of the northern emirates, the UAE Met Office said.
Forecasters raised the orange warning on Friday to urge residents to be on the alert as hazardous weather is forecast. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously especially on slippery roads and in areas where visibility is poor due to dusty conditions and rain.
As of 8.15am, a massive band of clouds carrying light to moderate rains is covering the islands of Abu Musa to coastal areas from Ras Al Khaimah to Sharjah, Dubai, extending to Ghantoot, Abu Dhabi city, and down south towards Asab, Sabkhah and close to the border, based on the satellite monitoring on the website of the UAE Met office. Patches of rain clouds are seen over Al Ruwais.
Light rain with lighting started pouring over Dalma in Abu Dhabi at midnight. The showers extended over Jebel Dhanna, Al Ruwas and southern areas of Al Ruwais by 1am Friday.
Moderate rain was recorded over Al Marfa and Habshan at around 2am while moderate to heavy rain lashed Tarif.
Abu Dhabi city also received showers accompanied by strong winds while moderate to heavy rain was noted over Khalifa City and adjoining areas.
By 3am, moderate to heavy thundershowers hit Dubai and other coastal areas. Light rain continued in Dubai until 8am. Light to moderate rain was also recorded over scattered areas of Al Ain.
Residents are urged not to frequent the seas as they will be rough to very rough, with wave heights of 3ft to 5ft in both the Arabian Gulf and 2ft to 4ft in Oman Sea onshore and maximum wave heights of 10ft on both seas offshore.
