The Air Canada flight was en-route to New Delhi from Toronto Pearson International Airport when the pilot took the decision to turn the plane around and land back where it had set off from.

Once grounded Peel Regional Police came into the cabin and arrested 47-year-old Jaskaran Sidhu, who lives in Alberta.2FB37EAD00000578-3380011-image-m-7_1451559417429He has been charged with two counts of mischief, assault causing bodily harm, and endangering the safety of an aircraft.

Sidhu is being held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, Brampton.

A spokesperson for Peel police said: ‘On Wednesday, December 30, at approximately 12.42am, a flight that had departed for New Delhi, had to be diverted back to Pearson International Airport due to a passenger’s belligerent behaviour towards a flight attendant.

‘The plane landed without incident and a male on board was arrested and charged in relation to the occurrence.

‘The victim sustained injuries that required medical attention.’

The Mississauga News in Canada has reported that ‘a flight attendant was verbally abused and bitten,’ during the flight, and that Sidhu was released on $20,000 bail.

A police source told the Mississauga News that the male flight attendant was bitten on the finger by a passenger who was frustrated with flight delays and was told he couldn’t go to the washroom at that time.

And CP24 reports that it was the second delay the passengers on flight AC070 had to endure after their flight the day before was cancelled due to bad weather.
