Passengers At Abuja Airport Sleep Under Turkish Airline Plane

a1Some angry Nigerians last night took extreme measures in order to prevent a just arrived Turkish Airline plane from leaving the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja.
They are Nigerians based in Turkey and had arrived the county in very high spirits last Sunday onboard Turkish Airlines to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones. Only to find out on landing, that their luggage had not been flown down with them from Istanbul, Turkey. They were told to check back on Tuesday, and when they showed up at the airport on Tuesday, were asked to come back again on Thursday.

Last night they checked back, and when their luggage was still no where to be found, the stranded passengers swore not to let the Turkish Airline that just landed to leave till they get a good response. These guys lay down beside the tires to ensure that while others vented their anger and frustration.

Hmmm.. the drama doesn’t end.

I can only imagine how these people felt, a messed up christmas after all their plans. Are they to be blamed for their actions? Desperate situation they say requires desperate action…

Whilst i honestly sympathise with the concerned passengers, my thoughts:

Why was there no Airline Official to address the situation?

How come they allowed the situation to degenerate to this level?

If they weren’t Nigerians, would the Airline have been handled the situation differently?

How did these passengers gain access to the Ramp when they were not travelling? Did they have boarding Passes?

How did our Avsec officials handle the situation?

If people can access the ramp when they are aggrieved then obviously security has been compromised here.

One thing is sure this festive period, due to high Passenger traffic and weight restrictions airlines may be constrained to drop some luggage to accommodate more passengers. The implication of this is that not all checked luggage will go with such flights. However how the situation is managed is a different ball game entirely.
